BARGE EXPLOSION VICTIM SUING
MOBILE, Ala. - Last week the barge was sitting near Mobile Abrasives. Today it was moved a few miles north to the port of Chickasaw. It's being held at US Inc to be disassembled for scrap. Casey Tyson is in a Dallas burn ward and has not recovered. A lawsuit filed by Tyson lists four companies as plaintiffs.
Lawyer "Skip" Finkbohner says the tugboat may have been an ignition source for the first explosion. While the investigation into what happened is far from over the lawyer says they had to file quickly so they could gather evidence before the barge was destroyed. He says the faster they can get evidence the faster they can get to the truth. Finkbohner says explosions like this don't just happen and it was caused by human error. Meanwhile, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is taking stock of their response from the disaster. Chief Stephen Dean says their best decision was letting the barge burn itself out before sending more personnel in.
